Pop-Up: BIPOC Reading Series presents Brianna Renae & Eric Tran

Brianna Renae & Eric Tran pop-up with a reading in the Portland Art Museum galleries.

They are paired with Untitled Series by Ray Eaglin; found in the Black Artists of Oregon exhibit, on the 2nd floor of the Portland Art Museum.

This pop-up is presented in partnership with the BIPOC Reading Series, a bimonthly reading series presented by Literary Arts. BIPOC Reading Series is intended to prioritize the safety, creativity, and stories of Black people, Indigenous people, and People of Color. Her Way With Words by Brianna Renae

Brianna Renae’s work centers around themes of activism for equality, the vulnerability of love, and raw black girl magic. Her Way with Words is Renae’s debut poetry collection. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mouth, Sugar, & Smoke by Eric Tran

Mouth, Sugar, and Smoke howls and hungers. This collection, which won the 2023 Oregon Book Award for Poetry, grieves a lover lost to addiction and also swims in the intoxication of desire. 

 

 

 

 

 

Portland Book Festival General Admission Passes are required for entry into all events. Passes are $15 in advance and $25 day of Festival. Youth 17 & under get in FREE. All full-priced General Admission Passes include a $5 book fair voucher and entry into Portland Art Museum. Passes admit attendees to the Festival; individual events are first-come, first-served. Bios

Brianna Renae

Brianna Renae is a spoken word artist from Portland, Oregon. She started writing as a way to heal herself and was pleased to find out that her words helped heal others as well. Brianna’s work centers around themes of activism for equality, the vulnerability of love, and raw black girl magic. All of her work is centered from a female perspective. Brianna’s poetry embraces her intersectionality as a black woman, but also exposes its complications. Brianna Renae was the 2018 Grand Slam Champion. She has featured for many great organizations such as Pickathon, WeMakePdx, Friends of Noise, and many more. Brianna has something to say, and is thankful for anyone ready to listen.

Eric Tran

Eric Tran is a queer Vietnamese poet and the author of Mouth, Sugar, and Smoke, winner of the Oregon Book Award and finalist for the Thom Gunn Award, and The Gutter Spread Guide to Prayer. His poetry has been featured in All Things Considered, Poetry Daily, and Verse Daily, and has received recognition from Best of the Net, Prairie Schooner, and New Delta Review, among other publications.  He is a psychiatrist in Portland, Oregon.
