Join 2023 National Book Award–honored authors Paul Harding (This Other Eden, Fiction) and Paisley Rekdal (West: A Translation, Poetry) in a cross-genre conversation on how to bring historical voices to life, and how to translate US history for a contemporary literary landscape. Moderated by Anis Mojgani, Oregon’s current Poet Laureate and the author of five books of poetry. Presented in partnership with the National Book Foundation and Literary Arts’ Portland Book Festival.

Bios

Paul Harding

Paul Harding is the author of three novels: Tinkers, which won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction; Enon; and This Other Eden. He has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and PEN America. He has taught at the Iowa Writers' Workshop, Michener Center for Writers, and Harvard University. He currently teaches creative writing and literature at Stony Brook University.

Paisley Rekdal

Paisley Rekdal is the author of six collections of poetry, in addition to three nonfiction and hybrid-genre books. Her most recent book is West: A Translation. Her honors include being named Utah’s Poet Laureate.

Anis Mojgani

Anis Mojgani is Oregon's current Poet Laureate and the author of five books of poetry. His work has appeared on HBO, NPR, and in journals Bat City Review, Rattle, Buzzfeed Reader, Thrush, and Forklift Ohio, amongst others. A two time National Poetry Slam Champion and winner of the International World Cup Poetry Slam, Anis has done commissioned work for the Getty Museum, the Peabody Essex Museum, and the Portland Timbers, and has been awarded artist residencies from the Vermont Studio Center, AIR Serenbe, and the Bloedel Nature Reserve. Originally from New Orleans, Anis currently lives in Portland, OR, where he serves on the Board of Directors for Literary Arts. His latest collection is The Tigers, They Let Me.
