Sterritt worked as a television, radio, and digital journalist at CBC for more than a decade. She hosted the award-winning CBC original podcast\u00a0<i>Land Back<\/i>, investigating land theft and land reclamation in Canada. It is now nominated for the prestigious\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.writerstrust.com\/awards\/hilary-weston-writers-trust-prize-for-nonfiction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"1\">Hilary Weston Writer\u2019s\u00a0Trust award<\/a> for Best Non-Fiction book in Canada, and shortlisted for the Governor General&#8217;s Literary Awards. In 2021, Sterritt won an Academy Award (Canadian Screen Award) for Best Reporter<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/british-columbia\/sterritt-screen-award-1.6031556\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"2\">\u00a0of the Year<\/a>\u00a0in Canada for her coverage of an<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/british-columbia\/indigenous-girl-grandfather-handcuffed-bank-1.5419519\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"3\">\u00a0Indigenous man and his then 12-year-old granddaughter<\/a>\u00a0who were arrested while trying to open a bank account at BMO. Sterritt also won a national Radio Television Digital News Association award for the same reporting.
