Sarah Shay Mirk (they/she) is a graphic journalist, editor, and teacher. For six years, Shay was a contributing editor at comics publication The Nib, where projects they worked on won both Eisner and Ignatz awards. Previously, they worked at the Center for Investigative Reporting, Bitch magazine, and the Portland Mercury. They are the author of several books, including Guantanamo Voices, an illustrated oral history of Guantanamo Bay prison. They are also zine-maker and cartoonists whose comics have been featured in The New Yorker, NPR, The Washington Post, and elsewhere. They are the publisher of nonfiction comics press Crucial Comix, where they teach classes on creating your own comics.
