Sam Smith grew up in Moraga, CA in the East Bay Area.  In 2000, he left California to attend Villanova University, graduating with a B.A. in English, with minors in Spanish and Philosophy.  After graduating, Sam pursued his budding passion for cooking. He attended the Restaurant School at Walnut Hill, and received an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts.

Sam’s resume includes Chef at Zahav, Chef at Ava Gene’s, Chef/partner at Tusk, Chef/partner at Sweedeedee, Chef/partner at Yaowarat, and Chef/partner at OK Chicken and Khao Soi.  During his tenure at these restaurants, Sam received multiple award including NYT 50 best restaurants, Bon Appetit ten best restaurants, Food and Wine ten best restaurants, and Portland Monthly chef of the year and restaurant of the year, among many others.

Sam currently resides in Portland, Oregon with his partner Jess, and dogs Hammer and Spidey.

    The Hot Dog Cookbook Party with Farideh Sadeghin

    Video host and longtime friend of Portland, Chef Farideh Sadeghin is bringing The Hot Dog Cookbook: 50 Recipes for the World's Best Food to life with a special afternoon collaboration featuring some of the Rose City’s favorite chefs. Farideh will be joined by Peter Cho of Han Oak, Mika Paredes of L’Echelle and Chef Sam Smith, each creating their own take on the hot dog inspired by recipes from The Hot Dog Cookbook.
