On Biography: Julia Cooke & Lance Richardson
Authors Julia Cooke and Lance Richardson sit down to discuss their new biographies. Both works explore the lives of trailblazing journalists and activists. Moderated by journalist Charley Locke.
Charley Locke is a freelance journalist reporting about growing up and growing old. Her beats have brought her to unusual places, from the air 12,500 feet above Southern California, where she reported while skydiving with octogenarians, to the wilds of teen Instagram group chats. She writes for publications including The Atlantic, Bloomberg Businessweek, WIRED and The New York Times Magazine, where she is a contributing writer. In the summer, Charley teaches journalism to high school students at Princeton University; during the year, she co-teaches Flying Solo, an online class about how to build a sustainable freelance career. She lives in Portland.
